San Diego County is a large area of 4200sq.miles/*10,000 sq.km, with ## cities, with a variety of communities and neighborhoods, each with unique and distinct personalilties and flavor to offer. From the Pacific Ocean, with beaches, harbor and bay, to the backcopuntry, mountains and desert communities. These pages divide San Diego up into geographical sections..

San Diego County & City ranges from the border of Mexico north to Orange County- from the ocean, beaches harbor and bay east to 6000 foot mountains and out to the Anza Borrego Desert. This widespread area enjoys a wide variety of communities-San Diego County encompasses 18 incorporated cities and numerous other charming neighborhoods and communities, including downtown's historic Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Coronado, La Jolla, Hillcrest, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Escondido, La Mesa, Chula Vista and more. From ethnic neighborhoods in the city to the backcountry's mountain and desert villages. San Diego can be divided into a number of geographic areas- The CIty and it's many communities and neighborhoods, South Bay or 'South County, East County, Coastal/Beaches, North County- Beaches and Inland, Backcountry, Mountains and Desert.

Definition of:
County - 'largest subdivision of a state', with an elected government and services.
City - an incorporated municipality, usually governed by a mayor and a city council, with it's own elections, police and fire depts.
Communities - similiar to a city, but smaller, without its own government. 'Unincoporated'.
Neighborhoods - a community within a city, with some boundaries, and some unique or distinct features or characteristics..
