Places to Run in San Diego at Night!

This is a new section being added and worked on! My personal favorite is alongside the harbor on 'Harbor Island' across from the airport
and near the Sheraton Hotel. The loop in about 3 miles, with much of it being grass. Great view of the city skyline and the Coronado Bridge, while running alongside the water of the harbor. No traffic to worry about and easy parking! - MAP *( from 'Island Prime' to 'Tom Ham's Lighthouse')
Also, you can park behind the convention center and run along the 'Embarcedero' and Seaport Village down the harbor front at the foot of Broadway.
From 'Joe's Crab Shack to Tom Ham's Lighthouse it's 5 mile one-way run alongside the harbor. MAP -
Balboa Park is also a place where you can run at night. There isn't much traffic, and you can run on the west park side, or the east museum side where there is some lighting. It is alway safer to run in a group at night, so check out these groups for night runs!

Beach Running in San Diego-

Since San Diego is a coastal city it has over 60 miles/100 km of beaches to run on! Not all beaches are meant for running.
If you are new to beach running the first thing you should know is that it's best to run at low tide! Why?... because at low tide the sand is flatter and more hard packed. At high tide the beach is at an angle with softer sand that can cause your feet, knees and hips to be of of alingment. Some of the better beaches to run on, from south to north are-
*Imperial Beach- from the north end to the 'Silver Strand' State Beach.
* Coronado and Ocean Beach have shorter beaches that limit the distance you can go.
* Mission Beach to Pacific Beach are popular places for runners.
At 'PB' you can also run on the boardwalk- just watch out for skaters, cyclists and many others!
* La Jolla has a nice stretch of beach, and also dirt paths just above the beach that are good for running trails.
North of La Jolla is Del Mar and Oceanside.
Check the tides out here- wavecast.com/tides/
Also, one of the best times of day to run on the beach is at sunset!
Combine a low tide and sunset run by checking out the sunset here- www.timeanddate.com
